Nienberge

(Sources of information: Wikipedia, district portrait website City of Münster) (Sources in German)

Nienberge offers a wide range of cultural activities for everyone interested. This is organized primarily by the local music school and the Kulturforum association. Among other things, audition concerts, musicals, theater performances, exhibitions, readings, workshops, panel discussions and much more are presented. The most famous sight is Haus Rüschhaus, built by the master builder Johann Conrad Schlaun. Later, the famous writer and poet Annette von Droste-Hülshoff lived there. Some of the rooms have been preserved to the extent that they approximate the condition the poetess knew at the time.

Nienberge was first mentioned in a document in 1142 as "Nigenberge"; at that time the core of the settlement consisted of four farming communities. It is unclear when the municipality was founded. Today, the district is a residential suburb of Münster, popular especially with families (picture above: district center). Its attractiveness lies in its good infrastructure, which ensures easy access to Münster's city center, and its near-natural residential location with nature reserves. One of these is the Nienberger Höhen (heights) with its forests, which are a beautiful local recreation area for the 6,500 residents of the district. Also located there are the so-called "Domkuhlen", from which stones for Münster's cathedral were quarried during its construction.

There is more about Nienberge on the district website on the website of the city of Münster (website only available in German).

Information about Haus Rüschhaus can be found on this website at Münster Sights.
