Handorf

(Sources of information: Wikipedia [Handorf, Sudmühle], district portrait website City of Münster) (Sources in German)

Handorf is located on the Werse and is therefore a popular destination for excursions (picture above: Werse river loop in Handorf). Many coffee houses have existed here since the end of the 19th century, where you can relax with a cup. This earned the district the title "village of the big coffee pots". Almost every local tavern also lent boats, with which guests could row around on the Werse. The first "inhabitants" of the village were students' associations, whose houses were built on the riverbank. Today, about 7,000 people live in Handorf, not only students, of course.

If you like sports, why not visit the sports center in Handorf? It consists of a gymnasium and several soccer fields. Originally, there was also an indoor swimming pool, but it was torn down in 2021 and rebuilt nearby. The bath is operated as a non-commercial citizens' bath by a local company.

In the vicinity of Handorf is the Sudmühle district with offerings for nature and horse lovers. You can relax in the Wersepark Sudmühle with its open-air swimming pool and local recreation area. If horses are your passion, the Westfälisches Pferdezentrum (Westphalian Horse Center) is your destination.

There is more about Handorf and what it has to offer on the district website on the City of Münster's website (website only available in German).

More information about the Werse can be found on this website at Münster Sights.
