Wasserschloss Wilkinghege

(Sources of information: Wikipedia [Wasserschloss Wilkinghege, Annette von Droste-Hülshoff, Rhemen zu Barensfeld], website Wasserschloss Wilkinghege [history, relaxation & sport]) (Sources in German)

The Wasserschloss Wilkinghege is a former aristocratic estate in the Kinderhaus district of Münster (grounds in the picture below). Since 1955 it has been a hotel with restaurant and attached golf course.

Originally, a water castle stood on the same site, which was first mentioned in writing in 1311. It belonged to the noble family Rhemen zu Barensfeld from the Münsterland region, that later sold the castle. In the following centuries it changed owners again and again, in between it was again the property of the Rhemen zu Barensfeld family. Well-known personalities were also guests at the castle from time to time, among others the well-known writer and poet Annette von Droste-Hülshoff from the Münsterland.

The current owners have been the Winnecken family for several generations. They used the water castle as a country estate until 1955, then converted it into the hotel it is today. In 1958 the building burned down, but it could be rebuilt almost true to the original and its palace character could thus be preserved. The old farm buildings of the estate were converted into hotel rooms from 1970.

The hotel makes its premises available for various events. You can celebrate family and company celebrations in the halls as well as hold conferences and seminars. The castle terrace overlooking the park is perfect for receptions. The golf course is managed independently from the hotel, arrangement of tee times and payment are made directly via the club's secretariat, as a guest of the hotel you get a discount.

More information and also a virtual 360 degree tour of the hotel's premises can be found on the hotel's website. All information about golf can be found on the website of the Golf Club Münster-Wilkinhege (both websites only available in German).
