The "Turnier der Sieger" is an equestrian sports tournament that takes place annually for four days over a weekend at the Schlossplatz. Every year, thousands of spectators come to watch riders and their horses. The tournament is organized by the Westfälischer Reiterverein von 1835, the oldest riding club in Germany.
At the tournament you can watch various competitions in show jumping and dressage. These include dressage and jumping competitions in various price categories, team competitions for sportsmen and sportswomen from the region, as well as competitions for young riders and horses.
Since 2003, the "Turnier der Sieger" has also been a stop on the Riders Tour, an international show jumping tournament series. The finals will take place on Sunday afternoon. National and international riders have to qualify for the finals the day before.
Admission is free for you on Thursday, this also applies to access to the stands and grandstands. From Friday on, you will need tickets for the competitions on the show grounds. The exhibitor, food and riding areas are permanently free for you.
The beginnings of the "Turnier der Sieger" date back to the 1930s, although the competition did not exist like that back then. At that time tournaments were held on a meadow near the Promenade. The first official "Turnier der Sieger" took place in 1955. The Schlossplatz was added as a venue later, and only the show jumping competitions were held there at first. The dressage competitions remained on the Promenade Meadow for the time being and were only moved to the Schlossplatz in the 2000s. By then, the tournament was already known nationwide and had already hosted the German Championships in show jumping and dressage several times.
