Südpark

As the name suggests, Südpark is a green area in the south of Münster (Süd = south). It is located between Hammer Straße and near St. Joseph's Church.

You can use the large lawns of the park as a sunbathing area and relax there from the stress of everyday life. Your children can let off steam on the park's playgrounds or in a large, shallow water pool. If you are sporty, you can use the football and ball fields. If you are a friend of nature, you will love the various perennial plantings.

The core of the Südpark is the large adventure village of the initiative center "ABI". It offers children and young people from six to 13 years of age various recreational activities on the theme of "Adventure-Building-Initiatives".

The history of Südpark as a park is not very old. Between 1860 and 1945, a military barracks was located on the current site, from which troops were supplied with rations and supplies. After 1945, the area was first converted into an industrial park and used in this way until the 1970s. It was not until 1975 that the current green area was built up.

You can learn more about the Südpark in the corresponding entry on the GeodatenKultur website of the Landschaftsverband Westfalen-Lippe (website only available in German).
