Roxel

(Sources of information: Wikipedia, district portrait website City of Münster) (Sources in German)

The name "Roxel" goes back to the family name Rokeslare or Rukeslare, whose farm first appears in documents in 1177 (town district picture above). At that time, the later city district was the center of the surrounding settlements and farming communities. "Roxel" as a name became common only in the early to mid-13th century, and the community remained village-like for a long time. Only after the Second World War did it develop more towards a small town and became part of Münster in 1975. Today, more than 8,000 people live there, but there are still many large farming communities with arable and pasture land.

For friends of culture and sports Roxel has interesting offers. In the Roxel indoor swimming pool as well as in the outdoor and indoor sports center you can do a lot of sports. If you want to do sports in a club, the BSV Roxel has numerous offers for you. The music school regularly organizes concerts by its students. And between Roxel and neighboring Havixbeck lies Burg Hülshoff, a castle and the birthplace of the famous writer and poet Annette von Droste-Hülshoff as well as the former ancestral home of her family. You can visit the castle and the Droste Museum it contains.
