Mecklenbeck

(Sources of information: Wikipedia, district portrait website City of Münster) (Sources in German)

Due to its location between a railroad line, a main road and other motor roads, Mecklenbeck is divided into several settlement areas. For a long time, this made it difficult for the individual areas to grow together. Clubs and groups in the individual areas did not know each other for a long time and had no contact. Thus, Mecklenbeck could not "grow together" socially for a long time and this earned the community the name "divided district".

However, this changed in the 1990s through the initiative of the citizens of the district. They founded the "Citizens' Association for Mecklenbeck," which brought together all the local clubs and groups. And the citizens, who now number more than 9,000, continue to drive the development of their district. Thanks to their efforts, a town center has been created with shopping facilities, a school and a community center around St. Anne's Church (picture above).

The farming community on which Mecklenbeck is based used to be much larger. It developed along the Meckelbach, from which the later district owes its name. Around 1800, the population grew slightly and the farming community acquired a village-like center with a chapel, school and inns. Through several incorporations over the years, Mecklenbeck was then reduced to its current area.

You can find out more about Mecklenbeck on the district website on the website of the city of Münster (website only available in German).
