2002
In mid-May, the first stage of the Giro d'Italia cycling race takes place with Münster as the finish.
2005
The diocese of Münster celebrates its 1200th anniversary. The consecration of Liudger as the first bishop of Münster in 805 is understood as the beginning of the diocese.
2009
The German government awards Münster the title "Place of Diversity".
2012
The city council decides to rename the Hindenburgplatz in front of the Prince-Bishop's Palace "Schlossplatz" (Castle Square). The reason for the renaming is discussions among the city's population about Hindenburg's role in the rise of the National Socialists.
2015
The European Commission awards the European Heritage Label to the town halls of Münster and Osnabrück as "Sites of the Peace of Westphalia".
2018
In May, the 101st German Catholic Day takes place in Münster.
