Kunsthalle Münster

(Sources of information: Wikipedia [Kunsthalle, Münster Hansaviertel - Hawerkamp], website Kunsthalle [About, Collection]) (Sources in German)

The Kunsthalle Münster is an art gallery that presents contemporary art in a warehouse at the Münster city harbor. On about 800 square meters it shows you national and international works in changing solo and group exhibitions. Accompanying this, there are talks, lectures, guided tours, film programs, performances and much more on offer for you.

However, the hall does not only take care of the program in its own rooms. As part of Münster's cultural office, it also supervises art in the city's public spaces. This includes, for example, the sculptures that are presented every ten years as part of the " Skulptur Projekte". This collection includes works by artists such as Rebecca Horn and Claes Oldenburg. One of the most recent additions is Gerhard Richter's installation "Zwei Graue Doppelspiegel für ein Pendel" in the Dominican Church. Incidentally, this project was initiated by the Kunsthalle.

In addition to these fields, the Kunsthalle promotes both new artistic productions and interdisciplinary exchange. It thus sees itself as a "laboratory and discussion platform equally". In this context, it also presents a sponsorship award exhibition of associated persons and institutions of the Münster Art Academy once a year in its own rooms. Since 2020, a fellowship program for artists and curators has also been affiliated with the hall.

The Kunsthalle was founded in 1991 as the "Städtische Ausstellungshalle Am Hawerkamp" on the site of the same name of a former concrete factory near the city harbor. In 2004, under the name "Ausstellungshalle zeitgenössische Kunst Münster", it moved to a former granary that is part of the city harbor. In 2012, it was then renamed "Kunsthalle Münster".
